I’m not wearing red or pink. I feel like Laine Cummings.

Emergency club meeting: Leaving on a jet plane

Posted in Misc. tagged , at 6:14 pm by Jenn

I’m going out of town for a few days, so I won’t be posting anything until probably next weekend. Until then, entertain yourself with these two hilarious Funny or Die videos, one new, one classic:

1. Donna Martin has a problem.

2. “Pacey Witter is the greatest character in television history. Ever. Period.”

Emergency club meeting: I’m off to Sea City!

Posted in Misc. at 11:46 pm by Jenn

Okay, not really Sea City, but I am going to the beach. I’ll be gone for a week, but I promise to have some book recaps to post when I get back.

While I’m gone, please amuse yourself by checking out Incredulous Kristy, if you haven’t already. This one is especially appropriate.

Emergency club meeting: Surprise coming soon!

Posted in Misc., TV at 11:32 pm by Jenn

I’ve decided to branch out from just writing about books, and I’ve chosen a late-’90s/early-’00s TV show to cover. There are a lot of ’90s shows I could write about, but I wanted to pick one that fits the blog. My favorite ’90s show is Buffy, and I’ve thought about covering that, but I’ve already written about it extensively elsewhere, so I thought I’d try something new.

I’ve picked a show I watched part of but never finished, one that I think had a big impact on ’90s pop culture. It launched a handful of careers (to varying degrees of success) and is still talked about today. I just hope I’ll be able to find all the episodes online. (Paying money for the DVDs would be too embarrassing.)

If everything goes as planned, I plan to have the recap of the first episode up tomorrow, so stay tuned…

Real-life Claudia outfit sighting!

Posted in Misc. tagged , at 6:59 pm by Jenn

I wish I’d had a camera with me at church this morning, because I spotted a very Claudia outfit. A 12- or 13-year-old girl was wearing:

  • a magenta shirt covered in sequins
  • a blue flowered skirt
  • brown leggings
  • a magenta fedora

And you know what? Like Claudia, she totally pulled it off.

The most interesting thing to me is that before today, I would have pegged her more as a Mallory, but only because she’s the oldest of seven kids. I bet she’d make an awesome babysitter, though.

Emergency club meeting! (Mary Anne has a hangnail!)

Posted in Misc. at 8:21 pm by Jenn

I’m heading off on vacation for a week starting tomorrow, so there won’t be any action around these parts for a while. But I’m taking a bunch of books with me and I’ll write up posts on them when I get back.

While I’m gone, entertain yourselves: If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with a character from BSC or SVH, who would it be and why?

Emergency club meeting!

Posted in Misc. at 9:43 pm by Jenn

I think whenever I make a post that doesn’t have anything to do with anything, other than just drawing things to people’s attention, I’ll call it an emergency club meeting. I’ll try not to abuse that as much as Kristy does.

Just a couple things:

1. It’s not just you – I redesigned the site. This is what happens when I have some time to kill and realize I haven’t looked at WordPress’ themes for a while. I’ve only been working in marketing for six months, but the idea of redesigning things over and over to see what works is starting to get to me. I’m weirdly proud of the doofy-looking banner.

2. Of course I scored 100% on this quiz.

God Bless eBay and Used-Book Websites

Posted in books, Misc. tagged at 11:25 pm by Jenn

I’ve found some excellent deals on used books on eBay and a couple used-book sites (see the Blogroll), so the SVH stage of Project Flashback should be a breeze. I already have a ton of BSC books, so that was never an issue. I’m already a few chapters into the first SVH book, but it’s the 2008 reissue, with some changes (like the school newspaper is a website, everyone has a cell phone, etc.), so I may wait until my ’80s version comes so I can read the original in all its ’80s glory. That shouldn’t take long, though.
